  • How to get here...

From Cancun: You can take a bus, take a private taxi or shuttle, or rent a car to travel the approximate 350 km to Villa Santuario. A bus ticket costs around $30 one way and takes around 5 hours. A taxi costs about $200 one way and takes about 4 hours. We recommend renting a car for your trip since our property is located 9 kilometers outside of downtown Bacalar off of a dirt road. The town and our area are very safe, and Villa Santuario is surrounded by many eco resorts on both sides. You can also rent a car in Chetumal, which is the nearest larger city center— just 30 minutes from Bacalar.

Other routes: There are flights from Cancun to Chetumal, but not very often (every Wednesday?). You can also fly in to Chetumal from Mexico City. Lastly, Bacalar is located on the border of Belize. You can fly into the city of Belize and cross the border, but we have not had the best of luck with this in the past due to Covid restrictions. This might have changed recently.

What we recommend: Fly into Cancun, rent a car, make a one day stop along the way (Akumal, Tulum, Coba Ruins, cenotes, etc.) spend 3-5 nights with us, and either head home or continue your travels to Merida, Belize, and beyond! The options are endless…

  • Once you are here...

You made it! Now it’s time unplug, relax, and enjoy your vacation. The entire property is about two acres. Of course this trip is all about the water. Our private lakefront is equipped with beach beds, beach chairs, shade, a private dock, life jackets, and kayaks. The warm and crystal clear water will make your lake days unforgettable. We recommend packing some inflatable “floaties” in your luggage if they fit. We keep some at the property, but these things don’t always last.

Boat Day: We highly recommend spending a day (or two) on a boat. Our concierge can help you with finding the perfect tour! We can arrange large group tours or small group excursions.

The must see sites are Canal de los Piratas & Los Rapidos. You can also make a pit stop at some of our favorite lakeside restaurants, including the foodtruck park, Parque Nacional Maracuja. These are only a few of the many stops you can choose to make on your private boat tour.

Downtown Baclar: If you decide to venture into town, there are plenty or restaurants, artisanal shops, fruit stands, small grocery stores, and even a historical Fortress built in 1729 to protect from pirates.
